A Chinese proverb states: “Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.”
Casa Shalom Orphanage in Guatemala has adapted this philosophy in other ways: recently a new training workshop was dedicated where young people will receive classes in trades like carpentry, welding, and electrical work. The Hansons, orphanage directors, believe this space will be life-changing for the youth, as it will give them skills they can use to one day provide for themselves and their families.
The Hansons, along with the youth of Casa Shalom, are sincerely and humbly grateful for everyone who contributed to this project: those who sacrificially donated to the construction, those who donated their time and talents to build the building, those who donated tools and machinery, and those who will be donating their time to teach classes.
