Scripture is replete with the assurance of God’s love for all … the entire world— every man, woman, boy, and girl, from every race, every nation … no exceptions!
If one attended Sunday School as a youngster, an initial memorization verse is found in John 3:16: “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” What a powerful scripture!
God, the eternal and magnificent Father of all creation, LOVED; not just a part of the world, but the whole world. As an intense feeling of deep affection, He put action into the equation—giving His ONLY Son, the Christ, the Son of the Living God. Only a parent who has lost a child can possibly relate to the overwhelming grief at such a loss. As with any loss, the inevitable question would be: “Why?” Why would God do that to Himself … give up His only Son? He did it because He IS a good Father and nothing was too great to sacrifice in showing us His great love; to offer a way of redemption—it was the only way to provide everyone with an opportunity for relationship with Him and a promise of everlasting life.
The ministries of Church of God World Missions are to not only to spread the message of God’s love, but to show it in tangible ways, as well. No one must perish without being told of God and His plan of salvation, and World Missions leadership, through Send the Light to the Cities emphasis, and COG missionaries are taking His message to all who will receive it. We can do nothing less than to support and pray for them as they face a daunting task.
Thank God that on Valentine’s Day, we know God the Father and the Savior who showed their love in a way no one else ever could!
