My call to missions first came when I was 14-years-old, a Minnesota Church of God summer youth camp. A visiting speaker prophesied that I would grow up to serve in ministry and be a “world changer.” As the years passed, that memory was pushed to be back of my mind, though God was still charting my course toward missions!
I attended Lee University, and chose a double major in Spanish and Journalism, with plans to seek a job as a court interpreter following graduation. After my husband I were married, I felt a pull to Latin America, and we signed on for a 1-year stint at short-term missionaries to Casa Shalom Orphanage in Guatemala in 2008. We quickly realized that God had been preparing us all along for a longer career in missions, we extended our stay in Guatemala indefinitely, and we were accepted as Career Missionaries with World Missions.
We often marvel at how God was preparing us all along to serve as missionaries in Guatemala; from our areas of study, to supporters ready to come alongside us, to already being bilingual, He was preparing us for missions for many years before we even knew we were called!
