The Church of God has had a longstanding history of supporting its numerous orphanages across the globe. World Missions’ True Love for Children (TL4C) emphasis continues reaching over 80 orphanages, feeding centers, and places of hope for children. TL4C is at the heart of World Missions Director Dr. David M. Griffis and Assistant Director Dr. M. Thomas Propes.
One such excelled institution is Samaritan’s Place in the Philippines. Founders Marc and Marilen Morris wanted to build a hope and a future in the lives of orphaned, abandoned, and neglected Filipino children. They are making a lifelong impact on the children by providing them with food and shelter in a loving environment.
The inspiration for this endeavor came from Margaret Rowe Atkins, the grandmother of Marc and Marilen. In 1922, four-year-old Margaret was placed in an orphanage in Cleveland, Tennessee. Having lost both parents to tuberculosis and the war, she remained at the Home for Children for 12 years, thus inspiring Samaritan’s, Inc.
Samaritan’s, Inc. is a non-stock, non-profit Filipino organization, and Samaritan’s Place has been the flagship project since 2000. SP is licensed and accredited by the Department of Social Welfare and Development, and recently was awarded “The Best Caring Agency.”
Samaritan’s Place has thrived and survived because of donors, churches, and volunteer teams who have helped to ensure its influence and maintainability. Adoption is a serious decision and SP has established complete trust in that area of ministry. The Morrises are grateful for all the love and support through the years for Samaritan’s Place.
