Philip Crockett Morris, Sr. passed away on May 28, 2018, in Maryland. He had been battling health issues for over a year and a half.

Philip Morris SrFourth generation Church of God, Philip was no stranger to the ministry and received a B.A. in Christian Education from Lee University and an M.A. in English Literature from Salisbury State University. He was ordained in the Church of God in 1975. Philip furthered his education at Tennessee Wesleyan College and the University of Tennessee, and fulfilled multiple positions within the Church of God pastoring Walker Memorial Church of God in Maryland, served as Church of God Headquarters auditor’s assistant; was acting chairman of the Language Division at Lee University (where he was responsible for the first graduating class of 14 English majors), as well as secretary, executive secretary, and vice-president of the Lee University Alumni Association. He also taught English at Salisbury State University.

Philip and his wife, Mary, were missionary teachers at the European Theological Seminary in Germany in 1982, beginning as its president in 1992 until 1996, where they instituted a well-balanced program of character formation, biblical knowledge, and practical skills. The greatest development was the extension program.

Earlier in his ministerial career, Philip said: “God gave me the assurance that He would continue to use me behind the scenes to bring encouragement, healing, and reconciliation. I believe one of the gifts God has given to me is the gift of working with small groups, committees, and boards which create and implement ways of bringing members of the family of God closer to each other. I am passing on these types of ministries to future pastors, missionaries, and Christian educators at the Seminary.”

The Scripture states: Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.(2 Timothy 2:15)

Philip’s life definitely reflected this biblical directive.
