It is estimated that Mexico has approximately 10 million children who have no parents as a result of abuse, abandonment, and death due in large part to drug use and violence. These children are left to scavenge the streets for survival in and around the large cities such as Poza Rica. Many of the children have special needs resulting from physical, sexual, and emotional abuse.
Perched on the hillside of Poza Rica in Vera Cruz, Mexico, sits Alpha and Omega Home, a haven for children. Pastor Elias Herrera and his wife Teresa have been caring for the children of the area for well over 20 years. From ministering to outcast children under a bridge, then taking them into his church’s parsonage, and finally to the current facilities, the Herreras’ mission is to reach these children with the message they are valued, loved, and worthy of care.
