In 1986, Missionaries Rick and Janice Waldrop were moved by the great need arising out of the Civil War for an orphanage. Casa Shalom began with three children taken from the streets in Guatemala City into the Waldrop home. Soon they moved to the current site, which has been expanded to house over 80 children with the need increasing everyday.
Jessica and Josh Hanson currently direct the ministry.
The orphanage provides a well-rounded holistic program ministering to the physical, emotional, educational and most of all, the spiritual needs of the children they serve.
According to the Hansons, “Our desire is that every child at Casa Shalom come to know Jesus Christ as their personal savior and that when they eventually leave Casa Shalom as young adults, they will be well-educated, productive, Christian men and women who will become leaders in their country.”
