While on a building project for a Bible school in Zambia, Emma’s Kids began when Missionaries Roger and Saundra Wikelund realized the great need to rescue children from the streets in one of the poorest nations of the world. Over 12 percent of Zambia’s children are orphaned as a result of AIDS.
Rescuing children from the dangers of village life where they are left to steal and beg for survival, Emma’s Kids provides residential care and an education for the children in the compound, as well as a feeding program for others in the community. 300 children are receiving an education because of Emma’s Kids Christian Academy. The government has embraced the academy and provides 7 teachers.
Saundra’s words become the mantra for the ministry, “If you don’t give them the Word of God, it does not matter how much you feed them, nor the kind of clothes you put on them. Give them God.”
