Rodney and Carol Friend became missionaries in 1989 and first served in Bucharest, Romania, soon after the revolution overthrew the Communists.
Rodney was a teacher in the Romanian Pentecostal Seminary until 1993. From 1995 to 1999, they served as education coordinator for Western Europe and the Middle East, based in London. After a pastorate in Maine, they went to Germany where Rodney was a teacher at the European Theological Seminary and campus pastor from 2007 to 2011. Carol served in the library. Rodney was a co-pastor at the church in Freudenstadt.
In 2012, they had to leave missions because of cancer care needed for Rodney. From 2012 to 2016, they pastored two churches in South Dakota and Michigan. Now, after God has restored health to return overseas, the Friends once again are missionaries.
Rodney will serve as principal of Bethel Theological College in Lusaka, Zambia. This important school prepares ministers for the central and southern nations of Africa. In 2017, they began their 16th year as missionaries in a new continent.
Some stops and starts have taken place over the years, but God has used every experience to help prepare for the next steps. God is a healing God!
The Friends believe in the Great Commission’s mandate to disciple believers. They are missionary educators who live with the people and believe we must “live” Christ before them, as well as “teach” Christ. They believe the Bible colleges must always stay connected to the national and local churches, whom they serve. The Friends appreciate all who have sacrificed and partnered with them over the years. We are all a team together reaching nations for Christ.
