Church of God World Missions has chosen the city of Manila as one of the Send the Light to the Cities effort.
Send the Light to the Cities is a belief and strategy focusing on major cities around the world with the people and resources God gives so they serve as lighthouse cities. WM director Dr. David M. Griffis says, “We will evangelize, plant birthing churches, and provide an evangelism and training center in each one of them.”
Only a small land area, metro Manila is one of the most densely populated cities on earth. As the capital city of the Philippines, it is at the heart for reaching this extensive mission field of approximately 12.88 million. Manila lies on the Pacific Typhoon Belt and is crisscrossed with fault lines, a serious threat to those living on its perimeters. The Philippines is comprised of 7,250 islands.
Roman Catholicism is the major religion in Manila. The evangelical Filipino church is now a significant missionary-sending church. Filipinos travel the world, working in many service areas, taking their faith with them. With such an enormous populace, much more needs to be accomplished in reaching the lost within its borders.
World Missions wants to reach the untold thousands in Manila with the love of Christ, and the Lighthouse project has already begun. Overseer Anthony Velasco’s son, A.J., has begun a church in the city of Manila that is already running over 200. Housed in the Marriott hotel, the church is poised to be the training center for making Manila a Lighthouse City. A greater passion for Christian training will help to provide leaders and students the tools for reaching the masses in the Philippines.
Already a powerful force for the Church of God in metro Manila, the Lighthouse project will increase efforts for the evangelization of this strategic region.
What You Can Do
Pray. There is no substitute for fervent prayer about the millions of people who do not have the light of Christ shining in their lives.
Give. Your donations will meet specific needs for Manila to be a lighthouse city. There are people ready to give themselves to this mission. We can send and support, they will go and give. Land and buildings will be purchased or built. Ministers, workers, and ministries will be trained and supported.
