Church of God World Missions has chosen the city of São Paulo as one of the Send the Light to the Cities effort.
Send the Light to the Cities is a belief and strategy focusing on major cities around the world with the people and resources God gives so they serve as lighthouse cities. WM director Dr. David M. Griffis says, “We will evangelize, plant birthing churches, and provide an evangelism and training center in each one of them.”
Why São Paulo?
São Paulo, Brazil is a melting pot of diverse nationalities; it has the largest Arab, Italian, and Japanese diasporas globally. As the largest populated city in the Americas’ Southern Hemisphere, 11.9 million live in the city itself with 21 million in the metro area.
Challenges for the advancement of the Kingdom of God are multiple. Traffic and pollution add to the complexity of life. The cost of real estate for building churches is outrageous, and the lack of resources stimulates creative methodologies in church planting. Churches are called upon to make a difference through social outreaches and child evangelism.
São Paulo creates an ideal training ground for ministry. The WEAC center will be expanded to continue training ministers. The diversity of contexts within the city serves to prepare workers for locations and settings around the globe.
What You Can Do
Pray. There is no substitute for fervent prayer about the millions of people who do not have the light of Christ shining in their lives.
Give. Your donations will meet specific needs for São Paulo to be a lighthouse city. There are people ready to give themselves to this mission. We can send and support, they will go and give. Land and buildings will be purchased or built. Ministers, workers, and ministries will be trained and supported.
