Phebe Grey Memorial Orphanage
Africa - LiberiaPhebe Grey Memorial Orphanage provides a loving Christian home for over 100 at-risk children. The children are educated on campus at Christian Martyrs School while their spiritual needs are met at Phebe Grey Church of God where Maxwell Thompson serves as pastor. The school and the church are also open to the community. Joining with Serving Orphans World Wide, we are providing university or technical training to young adults raised at PGMO.
The orphanage was established during Liberia’s civil war to care for war orphans. Listed as the world’s 8th poorest country, the nation is still struggling financially after years of war and medical crises. Malaria and typhoid continue to be challenges. Wide spread poverty leaves many children vulnerable and in need of the international support of the Christian community.
After serving in Brazil for 12 years, Maxwell and Debbie Thompson followed the call of God to Liberia where they have served for over eleven years. As chief administrator of Phebe Grey Memorial Orphanage and pastor of the Phebe Grey Church of God, Maxwell Thompson and his wife Debbie (a Registered Nurse) have recently expanded the ministry by opening a new home which serves children from birth through six years old. Through this, we have been able to save the lives of babies who were literally starving. What a joy it is to see these children now thriving!
