We Are Truly Thankful

Thanksgiving was always a special time in our family! We love the Fall season; the crisp cool air and the beautiful leaves. It begins with cooking for two days to prepare the meal, put up the Christmas tree on Thanksgiving evening and, of course, Black Friday shopping. In the midst of all this, we were truly thankful for the many blessings the Lord had bestowed on us.

He Understands …

However, for my family, the past two years have been particularly difficult—my brother and his wife (my sister-in-love) both passed away six months apart. Needless to say, the holidays have been very different and challenging ever since. This will be our second holiday season without them, but we rejoice in knowing they are in the presence of the Lord! That knowledge is what makes the loss bearable and realization that we are not alone … He understands our grief and wants to comfort us. We know we will spend eternity with them. What a blessing, what a hope, what a Savior! He gave His life so that even in the very midst of sorrow and grief, we have hope.

Reach Out to Someone Else

If you are in a difficult season, reflect on the previous good times and praise Him for His faithfulness. Reach out to someone else who is going through a difficult time and encourage them. You can experience joy in the midst of your sorrow. Then you will realize how blessed you are.

Psalm 100:4: “Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, and into His courts with praise. Be thankful to Him, and bless His name” (NKJV).
